Welcome to the Directed Reading Program (DiRP) at UT

Welcome to DiRP at UT Austin. In this first blog post, learn all about who we are and what we do.
The Directed Reading Program is an organization that helps students explore different areas of computer science research in reading and project groups and speaker events. We have had many topics in the past, including neurosymbolic learning, natural language processing, algorithms, graphics, and more. We have small groups that meet for about an hour every week for 10 weeks, where undergraduate students meet with mentors in small group settings, which allows a better relationship between members and community. We have more than 70 students each semester for the past three years, with many mentees joining different research groups across campus.
This year, we hope to expand DiRP by having more students than before join us. For the first time, we are able to give a stipend to mentors, who work hard to create exciting lessons for mentees. We are also working to find sponsors, created a new website, and are trying to expand into new and exciting computer science fields. We are also having blog posts for the first time, where groups are able to post progress on exciting projects and papers they have been working on. Feel free to join our mail list for the most recent blogs.
We are looking forward to an exciting semester.
